LEGAL SERVICES — GEORGE TOWN, PENANG
Matters of inheritance, attended to with care and steadiness.
Lineage Foundry works with individuals and families in Malaysia on the legal dimensions of estate planning — from reviewing an existing will to drafting a family trust or guiding a personal representative through distribution. We approach each engagement at the pace the circumstances require.
Lineage Foundry is a legal practice based in George Town, Penang, devoted to the work that arises when families attend to their estates — reviewing what has been written, planning for those who come next, and supporting those who carry out the instructions of the departed. We do not rush these conversations, and we do not reduce them to forms. Each client's circumstances are distinct, and the legal work we do reflects that.
AREAS OF PRACTICE
Three distinct engagements
SERVICE 01
Review of Existing Wills and Estate Documents
A careful review service for individuals who have drafted wills at earlier stages of life and wish to consider whether the provisions remain consistent with their current circumstances and family relationships. The review examines the existing documents in their context, identifies any provisions that may benefit from revisiting, and offers a written note in plain language outlining matters the client may wish to consider.
No change is initiated without the client's direction, and the client retains full discretion over whether to proceed with any revision.
- Written summary of findings in plain language
- No obligation to proceed with revisions
- Contextual assessment, not a checklist exercise
SERVICE 02
Trust Drafting for Family Purposes
Drafting of trusts for clients wishing to arrange the long-term management of assets for family purposes — most often for the benefit of minor children, relatives with particular needs, or the preservation of a family property. The work begins with careful listening to the client's objectives, followed by a measured explanation of the structures recognised under Malaysian law and the practical implications of each.
Drafting proceeds at an unhurried pace, with time allowed for reflection and for conversation with family members where appropriate.
- Structures recognised under Malaysian law explained plainly
- Provisions for minor children and special circumstances
- Family discussions accommodated at any stage
SERVICE 03
Estate Distribution Guidance for Personal Representatives
Supportive guidance for personal representatives — executors and administrators — navigating the distribution of an estate under Malaysian procedures. The work includes explanation of the duties attaching to the role, practical support in correspondence with institutions and beneficiaries, and review of the distribution schedule before final steps are taken.
Given the personal circumstances in which representatives often act, meetings are arranged with care for their own emotional bandwidth, and written updates are provided between meetings.
- Written updates provided between each stage
- Correspondence with institutions handled with discretion
- Distribution schedule reviewed before final steps
A CONSIDERED APPROACH
When is the right time to attend to these matters?
There is rarely a convenient moment. Most people who contact us have been carrying a particular matter at the back of their minds for some time. A first conversation need not commit you to any particular course — it can simply be a chance to understand what the options are, at your own pace.

HOW WE WORK
What distinguishes this practice
Measured pace
We do not regard speed as a virtue in this work. Matters touching a family's generational arrangements deserve time for reflection, and we structure our engagements accordingly.
Plain language, written
Every engagement produces a written record in language the client can read without a legal dictionary. We consider that part of the work, not an optional extra.
Full client discretion
Nothing proceeds without the client's explicit direction. We offer assessments and options — the decisions belong to the family throughout.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Matters people often ask about
What happens during the first conversation with Lineage Foundry?
The first meeting is an opportunity for both sides. We ask about the situation as you understand it, and we listen carefully. There is no obligation to proceed at the end of that conversation — it exists to help you understand your options, and to help us understand how we might be of service.
Can I bring other family members to meetings?
Yes. Many clients find it helpful to have a family member or trusted person present, particularly where the matters under discussion affect more than one generation. We ask only that the primary client confirms this preference in advance, so that we can prepare accordingly.
How long does the trust drafting process typically take?
The time required depends largely on the complexity of the assets involved and the number of family considerations to be addressed. A straightforward trust arrangement might be completed over three or four meetings across several weeks. Where the circumstances are more involved — multiple beneficiaries or assets of varied character — more time is given, without additional pressure on the client.
What should a personal representative bring to an initial meeting?
If you have a copy of the will, the grant of probate or letters of administration (if obtained), and a general note of the estate's assets, that is sufficient to begin. If you do not yet have all of these, the first meeting can still proceed — we are accustomed to starting from incomplete information and will explain what will be needed as the matter develops.
Are services available to clients outside Penang?
Our practice is based in George Town. We regularly assist clients from elsewhere in Malaysia where the legal work can be conducted appropriately. Written correspondence and remote consultations can be arranged where a personal visit is not immediately possible, subject to the nature of the matter.
What are the fees for each service?
The current fees are: Will and document review — RM 980; trust drafting for family purposes — RM 2,860; estate distribution guidance for personal representatives — RM 1,740. These figures represent the core engagement fee. Where particular circumstances require additional work, this is discussed transparently before any further charges are incurred.
